ICOMOS-UK AGM: 25th September 2025, 3.00pm

The ICOMOS-UK AGM will be held online at 3pm on 25th September 2025.

At the close of the AGM, we are pleased to welcome the speaker Joseph King, who will speak about his time as Senior Director of ICCROM.

All ICOMOS-UK Members are eligible to vote at the AGM, with voting to include the election of Trustees.

About the Speaker

Joseph King recently retired as Senior Director after 25 years at ICCROM. He provided support for the Director General in the implementation of the mandates of the organization, with a particular focus on governance, development and implementation of the biennial Programme of Activities and Budget, preparing reports for the statutory bodies, as well as other day-to-day decision-making within the organization. He represented ICCROM at 23 regular sessions of the World Heritage Committee and was responsible for leading a team of professionals in all aspects of ICCROM’s role as an Advisory Body. Areas of work included the development and implementation of the World Heritage Capacity Building Strategy and collaborating on activities in other areas of the Convention such as State of Conservation, the Global Strategy, and International Assistance. He began his work at ICCROM collaborating with the World Heritage Centre and CRAterre-ENSAG on the creation and implementation of the AFRICA 2009 Programme, a capacity building programme for professionals in sub-Saharan Africa. He was also involved at that time in the development and implementation ICCROM’s Integrated Territorial and Urban Conservation (ITUC) programme and participated in the development of the Historic Urban Landscape approach. Prior to ICCROM, he was a consultant to UNESCO in Mombasa, Kenya where he collaborated on the development of a Conservation Plan for the Old Town of that city (eventually the buffer zone of the Fort Jesus World Heritage property). He received a degree in Architecture from the University of Maryland and a Master of City and Regional Planning and a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania in the USA. He attended the Architectural Conservation Course at ICCROM in 1991.
