After 20 years as the Secretary of ICOMOS-UK, Susan Denyer is stepping down from her role in July 2024. As many colleagues and friends in the heritage sector here and abroad know, her name is synonymous with world heritage. Her rich and varied career has spanned decades and has involved work across many countries around the globe. She has been advising on the implementation of the 1972 World Heritage Convention and its Operational Guidelines internationally for more than 30 years. She has been involved with most of the 33 World Heritage Sites in the UK in an advisory capacity.

During her time as the Secretary, Susan has worked with several Presidents, trustees, and staff members of ICOMOS-UK as well as central and local governments, various formal and independent heritage organisations, and education sectors engaged in conservation in the UK.

Although we are losing her as the Secretary, we are pleased that she will continue to contribute to our World Heritage Scientific Committee.  

ICOMOS-UK’s Trustees and the Board would like to thank Susan for her sustained commitment to ICOMOS-UK and all the work she has undertaken in ensuring ICOMOS-UK’s role as an independent and respected voice in heritage conservation. We wish her well with her future plans for the spare time she will be gaining when she relinquishes her role as the Secretary in July 2024.
