RTM SPOTLIGHT FRIDAY 22ND MAY 2020 CULTURAL TOURISM & THE SDGS

This year’s RTM spotlight focusses on the contribution that cultural tourism, whether associated with built heritage or intangible expressions of culture, can make as destinations seek to deliver the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This one-day conference for industry and academics is being run in partnership with the ICOMOS-UK Cultural Tourism Committee and will hear from industry professionals, academic staff and our own graduates on work that is being done across the globe to integrate responsible tourism development into broader policy goals at regional and national level.

Saturday 23rd May – optional field trips
Tales of a City Tours walking tour of Leeds: On the morning of 23rd May delegates are invited to join a Tales of a City Tours tour of Leeds. The tour is a social enterprise project developed by one of our Responsible Tourism Management MSc alumni who has worked closely with people in Leeds with refugee backgrounds to design and lead their own cultural walking tours of the city. The tour takes around 2 hours and costs an additional £10 per person.
Saltaire World Heritage Site and Art Trail walking tour: An alternative option on 23rd May is to join the Chair of Saltaire Inspired to hear about how the community in that particular World Heritage Site celebrates not only its industrial past but its vibrant cultural present. The trip will last around 3 hours with the only outlay being your train tickets to/from Saltaire (around £7.00).

Please contact Simon Woodward (s.c.woodward@leedsbeckett.ac.uk) if you have any queries regarding the conference on the Friday or either of the optional trips on the Saturday.
