- New Heritage Skills Task Force
Delegates at the ICOMOS-UK Conference on Action on Skills Training and Education for the Historic Environment (29-30 April 2008) agreed on the need to co-ordinate action across the whole built conservation sector to promote heritage skills training.

On 23 April, ICOMOS-UK launched 'Conversations' with an inaugural event on 'Our Sacred Landscapes' in Birmingham. This also coincided with International Monuments and Sites Day 2008 whose special theme is religious heritage and sacred places.

On Thursday 13th July the UNESCO World Heritage Committee inscribed the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape as a WHS. This follows years of hard work by the WH Team in Cornwall County Council in particular.

- Government proposes demolition of Commonwealth Institute
A leaked letter from the Foreign Office and DCMS asking the ODPM for its view on introducing special legislation to overturn the Grade 2* listing of the Commonwealth Institute in London has angered the UK heritage sector, including ICOMOS-UK.
