World Heritage Committee
The objectives of ICOMOS-UK include playing a leading role in implementing the 1972 World Heritage Convention within the UK and promoting exemplar custodianship of UK World Heritage sites.
ICOMOS-UK is recognized by the Government as having special status in regard to World Heritage sites. This recognition is made manifest in planning policy guidance, which cites ICOMOS-UK as the consultative body for UK World Heritage sites.
Aim
The Aim of the World Heritage Committee is to be the focus of World Heritage activity within ICOMOS-UK.
Objectives
- Supporting and advising the Secretary of ICOMOS-UK.
- Assisting, when requested, the States Party in the compilation of tentative lists, nominations for inscriptions, management plans and monitoring reports.
- Advising ICOMOS International and UNESCO, via the Secretary, on all matters relating to World Heritage in the UK.
- Promoting the concept of World Heritage in the UK.
- Assisting the State Party in the preparation of nomination documents and management plans.
- Advising stakeholders in existing UK World Heritage sites.
- Encouraging national and international best practice in the management of UK World Heritage sites.
- Commenting on major planning issues effecting UK World Heritage sites.
- Establishing links with other ICOMOS national and international committees over matters concerned with World Heritage.

- Links with other national bodies concerned with World Heritage, including the Department for Culture Media & Sport, English Heritage, Historic Scotland, CADW (Welsh Historic Monuments), DoE Northern Ireland, The National Trust, The Local Authority World Heritage Forum, local authorities, site managers and university departments.
- Links with other ICOMOS-UK Committees, especially Cultural Tourism and Historic Landscapes.
